It's Almost Mother's Day!

Time goes by so fast sometimes. I find myself wondering where the days have gone as I look out the window and see the sun shining through the clouds and the birds chirping. We're finally starting to have some beautiful, sun-filled Spring days! And in a city where it is often raining, that is a real gift!

Now that it is Springtime, that means Mother's Day is almost here! Next week, on Sunday, May 13th we will have a whole day to celebrate and honor our mothers for the wonderful support and love they have given us over the years.

Mother's Day is celebrated throughout the world in different ways. What are you doing for Mother's Day? Did you get your mom a gift yet?

If you are looking for a gift that she will love, take a look at our book A Mother's Promise, written by Lisa Humphrey and illustrated by David Danioth. This book is for all ages and tells the story of a mother promising her child everything she will give. It captures that unique bond that only a mother and child can understand. A Mother’s Promise won 2009 Mom’s Choice Awards for both Distinctive Illustration and Family Life, and was a finalist for the 2005 Best Children’s Book Award from USA Book News and is a delightful read to be treasured by any family member.

I hope everyone has a great week and finds that special gift for their moms! Let's hope for some more sunny days!

Children's Books That Stay With You

Did you ever read The Berenstain Bears when you were little? I know I did, and it was a book series that I loved as a child and it stayed with me as an adult. Jan Berenstain, who wrote and illustrated the series with her husband, recently passed away at 88 years old. It got me thinking about the series and how important is was for me when I was young.

The stories of Mama Bear, Papa Bear, Brother Bear, Sister Bear and Honey Bear, the newest character. They reside in a big tree house in Bear Country, often dealing with problems such as bullying, messiness, going to the dentist and tantrums. They always learn a valuable lesson in the end, through working together as a family.

The series is a great example of children's books that are educational and inspiring. The Bear family is like any family, and you feel like you know them. The books and the characters definitely became like friends to me as a kid!

It reminds me of what I love most about children's books. Their characters become your friends as you are children, and they stay with you forever. And the best part? You can return to them, again and again.
